960 Music Goes to Court Over Sale of Burna Boy’s Early Songs
There is now a serious legal dispute over who owns some of Burna Boy’s early hit songs.
On February 9, 2026, 960 Music Group filed a lawsuit to cancel the sale of Burna Boy’s early master recordings. These songs were originally owned by Aristokrat Records, the label that signed him in 2011. In 2024, those masters were reportedly sold to Spaceship Music, Burna Boy’s current label run by him and his mother, Bose Ogulu.
However, 960 Music, which owns 40% of Aristokrat, says the sale was done without their knowledge or approval. They argue that such an important asset could not legally be sold without agreement from shareholders and the company’s board.

What 960 Music Is Claiming
960 Music describes Burna Boy’s early catalogue — including songs like “Like to Party” and “Tonight” — as the label’s most valuable asset. They claim:
-
The sale happened secretly.
-
Proper company procedures were not followed.
-
The CEO of Aristokrat, Piriye Isokrari, did not have the authority to sell the catalogue on his own.
Because of this, they are asking the court to cancel the deal and return the music rights to Aristokrat.
Criminal Charges Added
The situation has gone beyond a normal business disagreement. Nigeria’s Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) has filed criminal charges against Isokrari.
He is accused of:
-
Misusing company funds from the sale.
-
Diverting money for personal use.
-
Breaching his duty to the company.
Investigators claim that the money from the multi-million-dollar deal may not have been properly paid into the company’s accounts. Isokrari has not yet publicly responded to these allegations.
What This Means for Burna Boy
The 2024 sale was believed to give Burna Boy control over his early music — something many artists aim for in their careers.
But if the court rules in favor of 960 Music:
-
The sale could be cancelled.
-
Spaceship Music may lose ownership of the early songs.
-
The rights could return to Aristokrat.
For now, the case is still ongoing in court, and the final decision will determine who officially owns Burna Boy’s early catalogue.
