As part of its fifth anniversary in Nigeria, Spotify has released a ranking of the most-streamed songs and artists in the country’s history — and Asake leads the charge.

Asake holds four spots among the 10 most-streamed songs ever on Spotify Nigeria. His track ‘Remember’, taken from his second album Work of Art, sits at No. 1 as the platform’s most-streamed song of all time in Nigeria. The song has enjoyed sustained popularity across streaming platforms and social media, continuing to gain traction yearly.
Coming in at No. 2 is ‘Dealer’ by Ayo Maff featuring Fireboy DML. The song was the most-streamed record of 2024 on Spotify Nigeria, helping it secure its all-time ranking.
Other songs in the top tier include:
‘Awolowo’ by Fido (No. 3)

‘Kese (Dance)’ by Wizkid (No. 4)

‘Lonely At The Top’ by Asake (No. 5)

‘Joy Is Coming’ by Fido (No. 6)
‘With You’ by Davido featuring Omah Lay (No. 7) — notably achieving this milestone despite its March 2025 release

‘Terminator’ by Asake (No. 8)
‘MMS’ by Asake and Wizkid (No. 9)

‘Doha’ by Seyi Vibez (No. 10)

Asake’s journey to becoming Nigeria’s streaming powerhouse began in 2022 with ‘Omo Ope’, featuring Olamide, who later signed him to YBNL. The single propelled him into national prominence and signaled the start of a defining era in Nigerian pop music.
Partnering closely with producer Magicsticks, Asake crafted a distinctive sound blending fuji-inspired melodies, rap cadences, and Amapiano log drum elements. Following the success of his early singles, he released his debut album Mr. Money With Vibe in December 2022. The project surpassed 800 million streams on Spotify, establishing him as one of Afrobeats’ leading hitmakers.
He followed up with Work of Art, which delivered major records like ‘Remember,’ ‘2:30,’ ‘Basquiat,’ and ‘Lonely At The Top,’ the latter becoming one of the most-streamed songs in Nigerian Spotify history. In 2024, he completed a three-album run in three years with Lungu Boy. Although it did not match the commercial heights of his earlier releases, it produced ‘MMS,’ now among Spotify Nigeria’s all-time top 10.
Since Spotify launched in Nigeria in February 2021, digital music consumption has expanded significantly. Year-on-year listening growth surged in triple digits during the platform’s early years and has continued climbing through 2025, with an average growth rate of 163.5%.
Afrobeats streams in Nigeria have skyrocketed by more than 5,000% between 2021 and 2025, highlighting the genre’s explosive growth.
Local-language music is also seeing a sharp rise. Indigenous-language streams jumped by over 500% in 2024 and continued growing in 2025, both locally and internationally, reflecting increasing global interest in Nigerian storytelling and sound.
The number of Nigerian artists distributing music on Spotify has grown by 158% since launch, signaling greater access and visibility for creators. Nigerian users have created more than 25 million playlists, and in 2025 alone, the country recorded over 1.4 million listening hours on the platform. Podcast consumption is also on the rise, with billions of hours streamed since launch.
With the average Nigerian Spotify listener aged 26 and streaming around 150 different artists in recent months, the country’s youthful audience continues to shape music culture in real time.
Spotify’s five-year milestone in Nigeria ultimately reflects the broader rise of Nigerian music — driven by breakout stars like Asake, rapid digital adoption, and Afrobeats’ growing global influence.
