Wizkid’s hit single ‘Joro’ has achieved Platinum certification in France, marking another international milestone for the Nigerian star. The recognition was announced on February 23 by Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP), France’s official music certification authority. The song crossed 30 million streams in the country, meeting the Platinum benchmark under SNEP’s current criteria.
Originally released on October 1, 2019, via Starboy Records and RCA, the track was produced by Northboi. With its smooth mid-tempo Afrobeat groove and catchy melodies, ‘Joro’ became a defining record in Wizkid’s global rise.
Nearly six years after its debut, the song continues to perform strongly. Its official video has garnered over 330 million views on YouTube, ranking among the platform’s most-watched African music videos. The visuals also received nominations at The Headies in 2020, including recognition in the Song of the Year category.
Beyond France, ‘Joro’ has picked up certifications in other key territories. It earned Gold status in Canada in 2022 after exceeding 40,000 units in sales. In the United States, the single became eligible for Gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2024, following sales of more than 500,000 units.
The French Platinum plaque marks Wizkid’s fifth award from SNEP. He previously secured two Diamond certifications for his contributions to global hits by Drake and MHD, as well as two Gold plaques for collaborations with Major Lazer and for his Grammy-nominated single featuring Tems.
Afrobeats continues to expand its global footprint, with France emerging as one of its strongest European markets. Nigerian artists have accumulated numerous SNEP certifications, reflecting the genre’s sustained popularity.
Burna Boy leads the Nigerian pack with 10 certifications in France, including two Diamond and three Platinum awards. Afrobeats as a whole has earned 10 Diamond certifications in the country, with major hits from CKay, Rema, Ayra Starr, Oxlade, Fireboy DML, and Omah Lay all reaching Diamond status.
In addition to Platinum and Diamond plaques, Nigerian acts such as Davido, Lojay, and Ruger have also secured Gold certifications in France, further highlighting Afrobeats’ commercial strength in the region.
